Shadow Creek Ranch community wide clean up honored by Mayor Tom Reid


Mayor Tom Reid issued a proclamation to the Shadow Creek Ranch Outdoors Committee and volunteers in honor of their cleaning efforts during an event called the “Shadow Creek Ranch Clean and Green Community Wide Clean Up’’ which was hosted by Shadow Creek Ranch Outdoors Committee members and Keep Pearland Beautiful.

On Saturday (April 1st), armed with their white gloves and reusable shopping bags, volunteers gave up their Saturday to help clean areas of Shadow Creek Ranch subdivision.

The event began with the National Anthem performed by Glen York Elementary Choir and included performances by Jung Do Taekwondo, Wilder Elementary Choir, Marek Marlin Movers Dance Team, Blue Ridge Elementary Choir, Gathering Outreach Community Center Skit and Christa McAuliffe Middle School.

“I want to thank the citizens living in Shadow Creek Ranch for coming together for the SCR Clean and Green 2nd annual community wide clean up today. It is wonderful to see the community work together… businesses, volunteers, families with their children for one common goal and that is to keep their city clean and green. The work you are doing today is greatly appreciated, said Mayor Tom Reid.

It brings me great joy today to meet each and everyone one of you. Thank you for introducing yourselves to me, sharing your opinions, and I especially enjoyed interacting with your children for they are our future.”

Missing Child Alert for Pearland 12- year-old boy

 744am Update: Child has been found safe and returned to parents. 

Pearland, Tx -Authorities have issued a missing child alert for an Pearland 12-year-old boy who was last seen riding a small red bicycle wearing a red/white short sleeve shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

Missing Child – Case Number – 17-002775

On March 26, 2017, at approximately 0200 hrs, Pearland Police Department was contacted in regard to a child who had not returned home. Officers responded to the 5600 block of Fite Road in Pearland Texas and learned the following;

Benito Chaidez (12 years of age) last seen wearing red/white short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes associated with a small red bike. Child has mental health issues but has not been diagnosed with anything.

Child was last seen riding a small red bicycle s/b on Wagon Trail from Fite at approximately 2300 hrs. Child has a history of leaving home but, according to family has never been gone this long or this late. Child has a tendency to hide from those who are searching for him.

TEXSAR has been activated and is in the process of responding.

Pearland Police Officer’s Association seeks help from local restaurants to build memorial for fallen officers (May 16th)

PEARLAND-The Pearland Police Officers Association is raising funds to build an Officers Memorial Garden to memorialize officers who have died in the line of duty.

The memorial was designed by local contractor Todd Whistler, President of Architrave Construction & Design, Inc.

The memorial will be placed on the grounds of the Pearland Police Department. The front of the memorial reads: “Blessed are the peacemakers  for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9″ On the reverse will be portraits of officers who have died in the line of duty.

The PPOAC is asking local restaurants to assist with  fundraising efforts by donating a portion of their sales on May 16, 2017 from 4pm until 9pm. This date will coincide with the observance of National Police Week which is May 14 – May 20.

Restaurants taking part in the fundraising effort thus far are Gringos, Jimmy Changa’s, Casa Ole, Firehouse Subs, Chick Fil-A, Central Texas BBQ and Grazia Italian Kitchen.

In a statement from Mayor Tom Reid, “I am grateful for the brave work that the Pearland Police Department does everyday to keep Pearland safe and for their outstanding dedication to our community. The bravery shown by our officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Pearlanders deserves to be honored.  Thank you to the PPOA for spearheading this special project.”

This is strictly a private fund raising effort no City of Pearland funds can or will be used.

Dr. Neil Frank to speak on climate change in Pearland (Mar.2)

Dr. Neil Frank, former Director of the National Hurricane Center and former KHOU-TV Chief Meteorologist, will address the West Pearland Republican Women club  on March 2nd.  Frank’s topic will be “The Real Story of Climate Change!” The public is invited to attend the event at Spring Creek BBQ, 9005 Broadway in Pearland. Networking and social begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.


imagesNeil L. Frank, Ph.D. is the longest-serving Director of the National Hurricane Center (1974–1987) and retired Chief Meteorologist of KHOU-TV, Houston (1987–2008), is a Fellow of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation.

Dr. Frank has published over 40 papers and written numerous articles for popular publications.  He has been featured in such national publications as National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time, Newsweek, People magazine, and Southern Living magazine.  While Director of NHC, he was a regular guest on NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, The Larry King Show, CNN and all of the Evening News Shows. Don’t worry!  You can follow Pearland City Council meetings from your cubicle, little Johnny’s baseball practice or the dinner table.
According to the City of Pearland’s website, “City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 3519 Liberty Dr., Pearland, Texas 77581. City Council agendas are posted as they become available. Documents included in agenda packets are subject to change, please contact the City Secretary’s office with questions. City Council Meeting video is retained for a minimum 6-month period and may not be available past the retention period.

Resident attendance at City Council meetings is always encouraged and welcomed as one part of citizen engagement in your local government. During the meeting, residents are provided time to speak, however, speakers are limited to a three-minutes for individual comments and the five-minutes for an individual speaking on behalf of a group. It is not a question-answer session, however, it is an opportunity to voice your thoughts with City Council. Additionally, residents can share information with City Council by contacting the City Secretary via phone or email. Pearland Artist featured in Inaugural Art Show (Feb.7th)

Please join the Pearland Alliance for Arts & Culture to celebrate their first-ever art installation featuring local Pearland artist David Fraser’s collection entitled “Visions of Pearland.”
This collection is a exhibit of spherical panoramic photos taken in Pearland and a few from around the world.
Meet the artist and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments provided by the Pearland Alliance for Arts & Culture.

According their website, the Pearland Alliance for Arts and Culture (PAA&C) is an umbrella organization to foster the City’s movement toward being a cultural destination city.

Spearheaded by Mayor Tom Reid, PAA&C was incorporated in 2013. Board Members include Mayor Reid, Executive Director Heidi Wiess, Pearland ISD Superintendent Dr. John Kelly and entrepreneur Sherry Stockwell.

PAA&C is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a goal to develop, promote, preserve and enhance the Pearland area artistically, culturally and economically.
