Congressmen introduce bill to withhold congressional pay during shutdown

The partial US government shutdown has entered the new year as President Donald Trump’s border wall standoff with Congress remains unresolved. With federal closures currently on day 12, around 800,000 employees are feeling the impacts of not receiving pay.

House Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-05) introduced a bill that would withhold pay for members of Congress during the government shutdown.

Co-sponsors of the proposal include Congressman Pete Olson (TX-22), Congressman John Curtis (UT-03), Mark Meadows (NC-11), Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Congressman Kevin Hern (OK-01),  and Congressman Bill Posey (FL-08).

In a statement, Texas Congressman Olson said:

“Federal employees should not be held hostage to dysfunction and inability to solve the problem.  Congress and the president must work together to find a solution immediately”
