Pearland Police Department, Constables Office team up to keep Pearland shoppers safe

Law enforcement recently completed its Operation Safe Shopper initiative, which helped keep residents safe during a busy time at the Pearland Town Center.

The Brazoria County Precinct 4 Constables Office assisted the Pearland Police Department through the 2018 Christmas season with the Pearland P.D. safe shopper program which included increased patrols around the Highway 288 and Broadway corridor.

Precinct 4 joined Pearland P.D. on 12/13 and continued through 12/23 on 7 select dates in a joint effort to provide a safe environment for shoppers that visit the town center area.

“Unfortunately, this time of the year is an opportune time for criminals to ramp up their criminal activity, it isn’t uncommon for burglars, and bank juggers to frequent shopping areas such as the Town Center area which could be considered a target rich area,” James Brawner, Brazoria County Precinct 4 Constable said. “Our goal in law enforcement is to protect life and property and if we can prevent one of our citizens from being robbed at gunpoint I would consider it a successful operation. 44062878_2336141383069074_4857242969620611072_n High visibility patrols with marked patrol units being proactive are the greatest deterrent, criminals prefer a soft target; they would rather go to a location where they see little to no law enforcement presence so they would increase their chances of escaping law enforcement after committing their crime,” he added.

During the program, Constable’s Office Deputies made 2 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated, 2 motorists that were found to have outstanding misdemeanor warrants, 1 arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance and 1 arrest for evading arrest which came after a short vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot pursuit.  During the 7 days worked by the Constable’s Office, approximately 100 traffic stops were conducted.

No one was injured and we are unaware of any robberies or thefts that were reported during the times my office was in the area.  Constable James Brawner considers the operation a success and was pleased with his department’s performance and the cooperation shown between the two departments.
