City Of Pearland
Phase 1 of the Independence Park Improvement Project is shaping up to be complete by October 2018. Crews are presently working on several key parts of the project which are dependent on electricity, as power is required in order for the new facility to pass inspection.
Park structures still need various inspections, pending the installation of park utilities, sidewalks and the new playground. The installation of the stage building near the amphitheater is ongoing, with roadway paving, landscaping and additional grading in the surrounding area still underway. Roadway work on Pearland Parkway is set to continue, as teams intend to connect to the new park entrance to the main road.
Since construction started in October 2017, Phase I improvements have included a reorientation of the of the entry into the park, relocation and replacement of the existing playground, improvements to electrical & lighting, upgrades to electrical and water sources around the park for vendor access, additional pedestrian lighting, as well as the construction of additional parking and restrooms. Other exciting additions to the park include a stage building for theatrical productions and an amphitheater for special events, as well as the possible addition of Wi-Fi to the park in the future.
This project is part of the city’s effort to ensure Quality Parks, Recreation and Events – one of Pearland City Council’s six Strategic Priorities.
