Alvin ISD is excited to announce the launching of the YET Mentoring Program in the fall of 2018. YET (Youth Empowerment Team) is a school-based mentoring program in which dedicated parents and individuals from the community, businesses, and local organizations will invest their time to empower Alvin ISD students to pursue the school and life goals that they have not achieved YET.
“The mission of the Alvin ISD YET Program is to pair students with mentors that will empower them to persevere through their lives to achieve their dreams and goals by instilling in them an “I Can” or “I Will” mindset to face their school and life’s challenges”, said Alvin ISD Family Engagement Director, Ana Pasarella.
Alvin ISD is currently recruiting individuals from the community who want to impact the lives of children by becoming YET mentors. Becoming a YET mentor is a simple 3-steps process:
- Complete the Alvin ISD Volunteer Registration.
- Complete the ALVIN ISD YET Mentor Application.
- Attend a 3 hours induction training.
Once mentors and mentees are matched, each mentor will meet with their mentee at the school site, once a week for 30 minutes for the rest of the school year.
Dr. Gilcrease, Alvin ISD Superintendent, has encouraged all the staff in the Alvin ISD central office to become YET mentors. “Our job is to serve our student, whether we are a classroom teacher or not. What a better way for central office staff to serve our students than to be present and to be a positive role model for them”, said Dr. Gilcrease.
This summer, 150 individuals have already signed up to become YET Mentors in 2018-19. Ongoing trainings are being offered to future YET mentors.
Parents and individuals from across all the Alvin ISD Communities are invited to be a part of this program.
