The State of Texas is holding its annual ‘Back to School’ sales tax holiday in just a few weeks.
The sales tax holiday begins Friday, Aug. 11th and ends on Sunday, Aug. 13.
Parents can save money on items like clothing, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies. Layaway is also available for anyone who wants to get in on the tax-free deal. Items that have their last layaway payment made during the sales tax holiday as well as items that are put on layaway during the sales tax holiday qualify for the tax exemption.
There are exceptions. For example, the sales tax holiday does not apply to jewelry, handbags, purses, briefcases, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches and similar items.
The tax exemption only applies to qualified items that cost less than $100.
More information on Texas’ 2017 ‘Back to School’ sales tax holiday can be found at Texas Comptroller’s Website.
The Texas tax break weekend has been an annual event since 1999.
