PEARLAND-The Pearland Police Officers Association is raising funds to build an Officers Memorial Garden to memorialize officers who have died in the line of duty.

The memorial was designed by local contractor Todd Whistler, President of Architrave Construction & Design, Inc.

The memorial will be placed on the grounds of the Pearland Police Department. The front of the memorial reads: “Blessed are the peacemakers  for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9″ On the reverse will be portraits of officers who have died in the line of duty.

The PPOAC is asking local restaurants to assist with  fundraising efforts by donating a portion of their sales on May 16, 2017 from 4pm until 9pm. This date will coincide with the observance of National Police Week which is May 14 – May 20.

Restaurants taking part in the fundraising effort thus far are Gringos, Jimmy Changa’s, Casa Ole, Firehouse Subs, Chick Fil-A, Central Texas BBQ and Grazia Italian Kitchen.

In a statement from Mayor Tom Reid, “I am grateful for the brave work that the Pearland Police Department does everyday to keep Pearland safe and for their outstanding dedication to our community. The bravery shown by our officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Pearlanders deserves to be honored.  Thank you to the PPOA for spearheading this special project.”

This is strictly a private fund raising effort no City of Pearland funds can or will be used.
