On Sunday Morning, October 2, 2016 at approximately 7:32 A.M. Pearland Police Department Officers along with Pearland Fire Department personnel responded to an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway Street and Southern Trails Drive. Upon arrival it was found that a white female, later identified as Elizabeth Perez (31 of Pearland) was hit by a boat trailer being pulled by a 2013 Ford F150. From interviewing witnesses during the investigation, it appears that the female was running north bound along the sidewalk on Southern Trails Drive approaching the intersection of Broadway Street and Southern Trails. The vehicle was traveling east bound in the outside lane of Broadway Street approaching the intersection of Broadway Street and Southern Trails Drive. The witnesses stated that east bound traffic had a green light and the female was at the southeastern intersection waiting to cross Broadway Street while wearing a set of headphones that were connected to her cellular phone. The witnesses stated that as the truck passed the southeastern corner of the intersection, the female ran out into the roadway right behind the truck and was struck by the boat trailer. The driver of the truck stopped and began rendering aid to the female. The female sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by Hermann Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. Pearland Police Officers conducted a reconstruction of the crash scene and the investigation is still on going at this time.
