Pearland Medical Center, a HCA hospital is proud to announce they are joining the fight against breast cancer by forming their first Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” team.
“We are excited about participating in the race and are hoping to lead the pack with our first Pearland Proud N’ Pink team,” said Tiffany Dent, Lead Certified Surgical Tech at Pearland Medical Center. “We all know someone that has been affected by breast cancer, a mother or sister, cousin or friend, and decided that forming a team for the city that we serve would show a unified effort to raise money to help fund screening and treatment programs both locally and nationally.”
This is one part of an expanding effort by the hospital to promote early detection and breast cancer screening.
“It is important to make sure you have your yearly mammogram and encourage your mothers or aunts to do the same,” said Dr. James Hammond, Medical Director of Radiology at Pearland Medical Center. “Research indicates that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, and an individual has a better chance of successful treatment if the cancer is detected at an early stage.”
The annual Race for the Cure will be held Saturday, Oct. 1st at Sam Houston Park and is predominately located on the inbound and outbound lanes of Allen Parkway.
